I'm sorry to hear, and glad you are managing to get by.
To me, AI is not the scariest thing. It's a tool, it will eventually inevitably stagnate, and jobs will adapt to to the new baseline. It will be clearer where AI is a good fit, and what is better left for humans.
What I think is a far greater threat to employment is outsourcing. It has become so easy in recent days. It feels like we are headed into an anti-utopia, where a job can be moved to another country as soon as human labor becomes cheaper there. Capitalist purists may say that this is normal competition, that it is the responsibility of the worker themselves to ensure their labor stays competitive, and I partially agree. But as soon as multiple countries are involved, there is a myriad of additional problems:
1. What if another country currently has cheaper food and electricity than yours, and thus cheaper labor. It can't possibly be sustainable to just pack up and move the whole family to a different country every time this happens. What about language barrier? What about local connections?
2. What if that other country has laws that oppress human rights? Traditionally, if voting and protesting does not help, your last resort is to vote indirectly by leaving the country. But now, what's the point, if the stable country you are considering to go to is outsourcing the jobs to the country you are currently in?
