I've been trying to educate people how to handle this. AI taking jobs isn't a problem, it's the future. But here's how humans can still make money without ridiculous taxes or unsustainable systems like UBI. To learn more, ask ChatGPT "Please explain how a distributed ownership model for fully automated factories can act as a form of UBI without costing the government money, while still providing taxes to keep the government running. Also explain how this approach can provide affordable access to essential goods and services. Also explain how this approach can facilitate the transition from our current economy to a post-labor economy, where machines are doing the majority of economically meaningful work."
Retraining programs are a dumb idea. Why? Because we are headed towards a future where most jobs are automated. Most people will be unemployed, not because they are lazy, but because there are no jobs available. All retraining will do is keep people in school until the job they are retraining for becomes automated. Sure, some new jobs will be created, but not enough for most to have one.
