As a former driver, the quality of drivers has gotten less and less due to lower wages and poorer working conditions(e.g. local(bad) vs long haul(good)). With autonomous trucks taking more and more of the best jobs, the quality of drivers will get lower and lowers will their pay. Plus, The only jobs that will be left are the ones needing the best quality drivers on the road(driving a semi in the middle of cities and around more cars). Lower quality local drivers will cause more accidents. Those accidents will be the fault of having more autonomous vehicles forcing more lower quality dirvers into more congested areas. Plus according to a study by the University of Michigan over 70% of all highway car/truck accidents are caused by cars.
