$1K per month is a joke, no one could live off that. So, if AI takes over everyone's jobs, and no one is working, and we can't even afford to pay a WAY below poverty level UBI, then who is left to buy all the wonderful junk these AI companies are cranking out? The only jobs will be blue collar. Bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, iron workers, etc. Even auto mechanics could be replaced by robots and AI because each car of a certain year, make and model is the same. I retired a couple of years ago. I was a S/W Development Manager and I had just started looking into the use of Copilot to help us with menial coding tasks. It did OK, but back then we needed to spoon feed it. I was recently helping a college student with an assignment where the professor had asked the class to pick a pretty big project, implement all of the Agile artifacts to develop the project and actually code them! At 1st glance, I felt it would have taken my entire team months if not more to complete the project. But since their prof said they could use AI, I worked with this student to create all the Epics, User Stories and Tasks for the project. Copilot pretty much did all of it with a little direction. Then came the coding part and that's what blew my mind. Copilot generated thousands and thousands of lines of code, implemented local servers to run it on, installed all necessary packages to support what it was doing, designed and implemented the UI to be both web and mobile capable, and created a very well laid out code structure in GitHub. I was beyond shocked! It has come so far in just a couple of years it's scary. And it worked. So in just a couple of hours, it did the work that would have taken my former team of six S/W engineers months and months to implement!
