This is a very thoughtful video; thank you for it! I do want to say that perhaps you're coming at it from the wrong angle. That is, you're looking at it from the artist's point of view. What's important to the artist is his internal state; his emotions, his struggle. You may be overlooking the public's point of view. A piece of art may or may not provoke a learning or an emotion in the client; if it does, I'd call it successful, whether it be AI-generated or not.
Another thought... it's true that an AI isn't going to innovate. However, most artists feed heavily off of the zeitgeist of their time, right? That's exactly what the AI does. So your AI isn't going to invent Caravaggism. But it can be a hell of a Caravaggist.
