The pursuit of self-driving has created a generation that sees a car the same way they see a fridge or toaster, that doesn't enjoy and therefore isn't likely to want to improve behind the wheel.
The solution is not more automation, the solution is to offer them a seat on a bus, and hey, that's probably 1 grand or more a year they would save on just insurance, not to mention interest, gas, oil, brakes, tires, maintenance...
