Really thoughtful debate. For me, the key isn’t a binary “AI person or not,” but what boundaries we build in before power scales. We don’t need metaphysical proof of consciousness to start with accountability, limits, and admissibility. Above all: ‘always stay within the boundaries that keep our only home, Planet Earth, healthy and liveable for all life.’
If that commitment is written into AI’s foundational code — and into our own human code too — the whole “personhood” question may become far less necessary.
