This isn't just about AI's capabilities. If AI is truly effective enough to replace white-collar jobs, what becomes of our cities and local governments? Traditionally, city councils have collected public funds to invest in infrastructure that makes urban living viable. However, if there is no longer a need to live in or commute to these hubs every day, the future of megacities—particularly in China, Japan, and the UAE—could be fundamentally transformed. Even if AI evolves significantly, the massive capital already sunk into physical infrastructure—concrete and asphalt—makes a total abandonment of cities within five years highly unlikely.
