I think this is somewhat outdated view of AI. It seems more plausible to me that AI will just make people massively more efficient. It won't be able to completely replace humans in short/medium term. More likely it will reduce the need for humans by certain percentage (could be high). If it happens gradually, hopefully we will adapt. What we really need is more entrepreneurs to take advantage of this efficiency, so we scale economy to keep everyone employed, even with all the efficiency gains. The point you bring about potential slide into dictatorship when governments don't need as many people anymore is scary though.
