You're exactly right. Our economy has assumed employees will always be around to do complex tasks. AI flips that notion upside down. I DO want to live in the future world where almost everything is automated. However, I strongly believe that everyone needs to benefit from this revolution. A robot tax appears to me as the most straightforward approach.
At a MINIMUM, employees in an industry that lose their jobs need kickbacks to be retrained into jobs of the future. Looking further out, if the future doesn't need a human labor workforce, then we need to cultivate community in ways that help people attain the purpose they see for their lives. A robot tax should exist and it should be used to help people who find themselves unprepared for this extraordinary upheaval.
