While I agree we shouldn’t use facial recognition software for identifying criminals, there is an easy explanation for why people with darker skin colors are harder to recognize on security cameras.
- Darker colors have far less detail in digital media
- security cameras do not automatically change exposure to account for this
It’s similar to how seeing a dark scene in a movie where you can spot patches of one color changing to another.
