As an artist and photographer, we see a lot of other people use other artist styles in their paintings or photographs. You have YouTube Photographers sharing their tutorials on how to edit YOUR pictures in THEIR style. A style is a style, not intellectual property. There is a lot of hypocrisy in the YouTube comment section as well as in the creative industry. If you dislike what AI stands for, just don't use it then. It's simple. But you can't stop a technology from being used by other people. We keep hearing how artists say that AI has impacted their career negatively. Our experience has not been the same at all. AI has helped us (artist and photographer) in more ways than just generating a creation we can use as a reference. We've had someone last year steal our intellectual property in real life, not through AI. When we say Intellectual Property, we don't mean they stole our 'style' or 'look'. They stole our actual photographs and claimed it as their own making. THAT is real intellectual property theft. They took the physical photos that WE captured on OUR camera, they profited from it by selling it without our consent. AI art using another artist style, however, doesn't seem to be quite the same. You could make a legal case if you feel that possessive about your own art style being used, but at least your art itself wasn't taken away from you permanently. A lot of artists have looked up tutorials on YouTube. You could make the same argument here that by using another artist's tutorial to reference their style in your own artwork is no different to what AI is doing. AI doesn't care about an artists feeling being hurt. You can't stop AI from existing. If you don't approve of AI, just don't use it. But don't hate on people who do use it. An 'artist's style' is not intellectual property. We tested this using our own photography and it didn't replicate our photograph or intellectual property. It just replicated the style. Artists are not doomed because of AI, artists have been doomed since the beginning of time. It has never been easy to be an artist, it never will be. AI is just another new excuse for artists to whine about how hard it is to be in this industry.
