The basic question here is “whose values” are guiding “Claude”? Which “humanity” is in view, with reference to which “culture” or “cultures”? It is great to be prudent about the risks and opportunities envisioned in the use of AI. But, the pace of engagement with these models is problematic since we don’t know with any degree of probability what these models can or will do. As it is, Claude’s “Constitution “ is full of hyperbole that anthropomorphizes to an extreme. Aspiration is one thing, capacity another. Anthropic is not being fully transparent.
