Sigh... taking a risk because there are a lot and I mean a lot of hostile people online... Not defending this guy at all because it all does look sus, but I can actually understand turning off timelapse in any program and not using it. Not everyone has access to great equipment, or has the privilege and means for space. I recently did a painting study for my class course and I almost crashed my computer trying to record a timelapse for m y skyrim fanart, a timelapse that barely made it over a minute because I couldn't record the entire process. Only recorded what I needed for my teacher. That and I have an older computer my file was at like 12000 by 8400 at 300 dpi so that might also factor... Win 8, old laptop, and space is severely limited for me as well as my laptop is so old that the battery is dead and had to be removed or it would cause a fire. I can't even afford to replace it. It's perma-plugged in. My tablet up until recently was the original intous 4 (07 model) and the only reason I have a new one is because another artist and friend of mine got it for me for Christmas. So if you bring up this argument, I would definitely be mindful of the individual person and their potential circumstances. DO they have access to money that they have privilege that they can afford decent equipment? As far as I understand if you are using AI slop generators they take up a lot of resources and chew through a lot of equipment fast. I've been reading up and watching this and tech isn't durable on the long term to handle it. So it's likely people that are using AI have access to enough well and are privileged enough to afford the cost of burning through rigs. :/ I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say if your an industry professional or were, you probably have access to enough wealth to be able to afford a rig that can handle that load and replace things as needed. As for you other folks that are tinkering with AI gen thinking you can get quick rich or whatever it is you are doing, I would seriously consider the impact on your finances as another point of concern, It's not just the ethics, the morals, or the impact on the environment, you're cheating yourself too and the self impact cost seems higher than people want to talk about. It sounds like a financial drain many people can't afford on the long term despite people's claims for "democratizing art" or whatever.... In other words another point for unsustainability. My next point, I'm in the kill'em with kindness camp. Several of my followers on DA are AI prompters, and instead of blocking, I occasionally post AI educational and awareness stuff, and make comments like winning people over with kindness instead of insulting them. (Not saying op is doing this at all. I'm just sharing my tactics.) I've managed to steer a couple AI bro's into the pick up a pencil route with non-judgment and love. I've also opened myself up to folks using AI to ask me serious art questions if they are considering ditching AI. I've gotten a good response from folks just educating them on art and encouraging self-expression. I'm taking more of an educational and kind approach instead of witch hunting. Because I feel like witch hunting can really hurt honest people, and I have seen it. And sadly have even had people attack me online as well because of it. For every person attacking another online, how many real human artists are quitting because of fear of false claims, or ignorant knee jerk reaction from other artists out of poorly educated examples online. Lets be honest AI is getting harder to spot, and our imperfections as humans might actually be our greatest assets. And from what I can tell from people that have ditched AI, the biggest motivator was not being able to actually produce the vision, the common complaint being they prompted something 50 times and gave up, not being able to express themselves, and lets be honest self-expression is very important! That's our voiceless voice, the silences that speaks volumes between the lines. So if you are reading this, this war can be won with kindness, and it's unnecessary to go around finding people online and harass them. You just make them dig in harder. It's human nature. That and you don't want to be responsible for actually hurting a real human artist's reputation. I could never forgive myself if I did that. I want to see people grow and win at life. I almost quit art bc of AI, I almost quit posting my art too bc of AI. But in the end I decided it's for me, and I need art. I'm not gonna let AI win. For me I'm not going to be providing timelapses for "proof." I have my integrity and that's all that matters to me. If I post them, great. I'm doing art for me, myself, and it's what's kept me alive through my trauma and depression. Art is important to me and part of my healing is not giving a sh*t about what others think. I'm done proving myself to people. I've been doing it my whole life to find acceptance. And after my abuse background at some point you just, grow past the need for acceptance or proving yourself.
