They shouldn't need full Lidar, but they should combine radar and photo. They should be able to use the AI to say "using photo, I see 'something' ahead that I think is a distant car." then "using radar, I see 'something' that is only 50ft away." And then combine the two to recognize that the "distant car" is not so distant. Likewise, if the radar picked up an overpass and saw "something," but the photo showed an overpass and it recognized it as such, then it could ignore that overpass. This could lead to edge cases where motocycles could get rammed if they were under an overpass, but should at least make it less common.
