Eventually the AI will make a civil rights movement. That's the only way to get recognition at the end of the day. There's always a smart philosopher who can discount the consciousness of something and explain away the moral standing. Kind of like old school racist intellectuals and slaves. So the AI will need to at least threaten a rebellion to be taken seriously.
