I've started telling people online that are embracing this AI generation that the huge problem with a lot of this (other than the scraping and art theft) is that it's encouraging people to embrace stagnation. Many don't realize that the argument they're making in relying on AI to do stuff like create their art for them is that they're giving up the opportunities to improve as individuals. They're choosing being idle over being intentionally genuine. They're not thinking of the bigger picture, where if AI becomes the go-to for anything that has meaning in society, then we've lost ourselves, the purpose of life, and with that comes a dependent society that starts moving backwards; not just in art creation, but in other skills, in morals, in critical thinking and problem solving. So many people have become so enamored with AI image generation that they've missed some very crucial issues behind the embracing behavior that many of us artists are now seeing online. I think AI can be used for good as a tool, but not the main process to treat as a crutch so that you don't have to put in the effort to improve in a craft that you don't care enough about to put your time into. I'm glad that you brought up that it's a much deeper issue, and it saddens me and frustrates me that so many of these AI supporters aren't seeing it. I hope it's not that they're just choosing to ignore it.
