Computation alone will never be conscious. Symbols and rules don’t have a way to form “felt subjective” first person experience. Purely informational. Physically, computers are just silicon and transistors. That is not the right physical machinery of generating consciousness within our reality. Subjectivity arises from physical reality, much like gravity, black holes, etc. simulation of a thing is not the thing. I don’t worry a good enough simulation of a black hole will kill us all. So the question is, how does it arise in our physical reality. Either functional “doing something causes it” or it is fundamental, and interaction on that boundary (quantum layer) is the interface, like a radio antenna of sorts. So physics certainly lays down the tools for this, precisely through this collapse and how it is non-real. Moreover, fundamental reality is also relational, and now we think spacetime is an emergent property of that relational, informational structure. The deep question is, why would reality be shaped for experience? Why does subjective need to be a thing at all, because robots/llm are capable and certainly not feeling anything. So there does appear an ordered informational logos. There does appear fundamental reason for subjectivity. There does appear an interface to such a thing though QM and modern physics.
