I train ML models daily, and I cringe whenever I hear the words “think” applied to these.
There is no “thought.” Model outputs are the result of training data being used to tune parameter weight biases. I could train an LLM to lie to me telling me it was thinking, but it doesn’t mean it is.
No matter how complex these models are right now, it’s still the same fundamental technology. Tokens in > Model weights generate tokens out.
That said, I understand the use of terms like “AI” and “thinking” being used here as a proxy due to lack of understanding by most people.
