A quick thought: you operate here under the assumption that copyright laws are inherently a good thing, which is very much not a given. I personally, who consider myself to be a creative person (even if not a professional artist) believe that we would be better off with no copyright laws whatsoever; obviously not under capitalism, but in a better, more fair society – certainly. It is an interesting philosophical discussion to have. And while I don’t think that it is certain that the advent of AI art is a good step towards such a better society, I am also cautious about disregarding its merits in such a society altogether. If it were to be made ethically it would be a great step towards making art even more egalitarian – I think that at least some of the negative attitudes towards AI art stem from a deeply elitist, irrational worldview of the art world. I am also not asking anyone to agree with me here, but just be aware that copyright is not a God-given, eternal idea.
