there are truck driving jobs that self driving trucks cant do.. cant perform in. here lets talk about this first. sink holes have a bad habit of just popping up and swallowing whole houses into the ground in florida.. can a self driving truck react to a sink hole situation right in front of it. so there are a lot industries that cant be self driving trucks. hazmat can self drive because it cant react appropriately to spills in containment or public safety measures like hazard cones being laid out by law with in ten minutes at the correct interval that is required by law.. other industries are the distribution jobs where drivers are required to bring the product into the stores they service. and in the oil field; the drivers less truck cant hook the hose up to the getty box outlet of brine or oil .. and for million lb heavy haul loads that take up 2 lanes of traffic; theres a lot going on with turn planning and watching for tire failures and reacting to that and monitoring the trucks systems and managing traffic behind and oncoming. sure; there will usually be escort with that load.. but i dont think driverless trucks will be able to handle the complete job and communicate in a timely manner situations of importance and safety back and forth. and what about car haulers who have to pick up the vehicles from lots and move them to other lots. the driverless truck cant load those vehicles onto the car hauler.then there are the truckers who service concerts. anytime you have to have a driver interact with the load. the driverless truck dont seem to be capable of doing that job. like heavy equipment. drivers usually have to unload the equipment from the trailer. i think that the only industry that driverless trucks can take over is freight.. dry vans.. a lot of handicap people driving trucks are going to be out of jobs.. ive got a 10 percent disability rating. but i dont do freight. i work in water hauling and construction of roads also. things ai cant do.. because someone has to oil the bed and clean the buggers out of the belly dump.. ai is not going to be able to do that. ai also cant do regular walk arounds on their truck and trailer to ensure public safety by inspecting and catching tires that are coming apart and air leaks in the trailer system at the back where the bags and brakes are.. they cant see the hub leaks or locate road debri damage in trailer.. and another thing. what about hackers who get into those trucks programs as they go down the road. this represents a significant threat to public safety and in some cases national security. and another thing.. if the ai / self driving trucks cant respond to many of these concerns i have pointed out here in this comment; that the people sponsoring self driving trucks should build their own highways. those trucks are a public safety concern and should not be on the same roads as living people.. i say living people because sometimes the load might be dead people.. during covid they was trucking corpse's around. dead bodies being freighted to far off places. i dont think ai can do ice road trucking either. i dont think that ai can put the chains on the truck.
