As a programmer who does art since childhood I want to say this is a big misunderstanding. A) these companies don't just scrape the web to collect datasets . They do care about not having legal issues so they buy your data from the platform you upload . Most of you artists don't really read the terms of service . The company behind those platforms that you upload your data such as instagram,... can sell your data to anyone they want . You claimed the datasets were collect without your concern that's not true. Also building a datasets takes so much work . They actually need to go through entire datasets to make sure there is no inappropriate content in it such as nudity , violence,... this process can take months or years depending on how big the datasets are. B) ai doesn't take pieces of art from different artists and smash them together. Ai Is made by mimicking a human Brain cells in a computer and just like a human it needs to learn everything from 0 . The difference is AI needs a lot more examples but it can learn what takes decades for humans to learn in a matter of weeks , simplly because AI has more processing power than a human cells. I have not met a single artist who pointed at a ai art and say that's exactly my art ! That's because AI doesn't copy and smash things together. It looks at the pixels and finds the pattern that relates them together. It learn what kind of order of pixels are an apple 🍎 what kind of order of pixels are potatoes 🥔. It can find pattern in a way that humans simply can't. It can look at all the pixels of your art and learn the pattern. Learn What makes your style. And I don't think it's possible to copy right a style. Everyone can look at your art and learn your style and use it .... I understand you worry about losing your job because you can't compete to ai but that's why you should never compete. Ai art and human art should be separated from each other.just like how in chess there is AI competition and human competition separated. But don't say what AI makes is not real art because it is . And Don't say ai is stealing art and smashing it together because that's not what is happening 🙄 I understand it takes decades to make good art as a human and you can't wrap your head around how could your laptop do what you do in seconds so you automatically think it must be cheating. But that's just far from reality. Garry Casparov had the same reaction when he lost to deep blue . "It must be cheating " but here we are 20 years later and all the grandmasters use ai to study chess . That is what artist need to do . They need to use AI as a great tool to study and learn .
