A lot of people think art is a matter of the result, that what matters is the art itself and nothing else. A lot of AI "Artists" think that because of this, being able to produce AI Art is the same as an Artist painting something for real. But art is about putting your true self out there, it's about artists wanting to prove their talent, and us viewers wanting to see it. In the same way as singing, dancing, heck, even the way some people tackle accounting - it's about your take on it, the way a human morphs the world around them. It celebrates our consciousness and creates a footprint in the world. AI Art simply mashes together the footprints of our past and cuts your own feet off in favor of them. AI "Artists" make the mistake of thinking we've reached the end of art, when art continues to show there's more we can't imagine out there. Also, BY THE WAY, let me start getting a little more casual, as I get pissier about this whole thing. Art competitions can be pretty by-the-lines, and often judges art by PRECEDENT, for what art history has defined as "good" art. It's hard to say how the Colorado State Fair's Digital Arts/Digitally Manipulated Photography category was judged, but winning a competition where art is ranked objectively and numerically with an AI seems to me like an expected outcome AND a pointless one. If he had used it to make a statement against the art competition itself I'd almost stand with him - but he didn't and he's a freak that can't live being unremarkable, and I suppose that's the end of my rant
