I think we should implement a UBI and that it is consistent with Marxism. If the people try to seize the property of the capitalist class it will probably start a revolutionary war. But what we could instead do is simply wait for the UBI to cause money to hyper-inflate into worthlessness. In fact, it may be in the interests of leftism to allow a UBI to accelerate the last stage of capitalist technological development so that as much material production as possible is automated. When money loses its value as labor becomes worthless, which Marx predicted, then the capitalist class will lose their property anyways. Their money would become worthless and unusable. And the people would likely vote to take ownership over the means of production at that point. I still think it’s necessary to expand worker cooperatives now, so that the number of capitalists with obscene wealth accumulation is lowered, but maybe the most efficient way to make the socialist transition would be to let capitalism burn itself out and hyper-inflate its currencies. That way it ensures capitalism will not only end globally at once, but also that it will never return.
