We operate like this more in homeschooling. My daughter did less than 3 hours a day of actual "school work". Lots of time reading, enjoying the outdoors and being inquisitive. She planned out when she would do each subject during her day and had deadlines to get stuff done. She went into a private school because she wanted a "high school" experience her junior year. She benchmark scored as if she was a senior in the 9th month of school. Dual enrolled and holds a 4.3 GPA with a leadership class being her only high school class this year.
These kids don't need school set up the way it is. It definately needs more innovation and exploration and less sit down and memorize. I'm convinced almost any system is better than what we have been adapting children to currently.
