As an artist, my opinion is that AI "art" isn't really art and that it's doing more harm than good. But to elaborate, when we say art, we are most likely referring to things like music, paintings, theatre and so on. We do it because we find pleasure in it, because we can communicate our thoughts and feelings by it or because we just want to create something that can mesmerize people by it's beauty. Either way, I think that the capability of creating art and to such a degree that our world is filled with all different kinds of it is one the traits that makes us human. But, looking at AI "art" and how it works, what it creates is just a bunch of paintings (that someone spend hours to create, and worked hard to do it, not only with their hands but also brain and heart) sort of glued together to fit the description we are providing it. It doesn't include our feelings and doesn't show the thought process of the author. It's completely ripped of the meaning and soul. And for your information, most of the works that the AI is trained on are STOLEN. And your argument that other artists take inspiration from each other etc. isn't really all that true, I'll even say that it's quite shitty (no offense please). Why you ask? Well, let me explain: Of course, many artists take inspiration from each other, I do that too (and if we want to post it: first we ask permission, then (if the original author agreed) post with credits). But what we don't do is just take someone's work without their permission, combine it in some way or another and call that ours. That's called stealing and it's pretty much what the AI is doing. We don't even repost someone's work if the author doesn't agree to it, even if we're crediting them. No is a no, and if someone didn't state if it's okay, then we ask first. But all of that is just basic human respect towards other people and seeing how so many people don't get it and don't see anything wrong with it just makes me a bit hopeless for the future. Plus, it's just ugly. So many things in it don't add up, and you can't call it abstract to make it make some sense. Sure, it's fast and cheap, but it doesn't have any qualities that would make me qualify it as art: It doesn't have feelings to it; we can't follow the thought process of the author because there is none; it's ugly as hell. And the most important things is as I said - it's S T O L E N. Not taken inspiration from, because a robot can't get inspired (and taking inspiration doesn't mean drawing exactly like the author or in their style, it means creating something similar in one way or another, but doing it in our way or creating something with just a similar vibe to it), it's just CTRL+C(copy) and CTRL+V(paste). /Okay, writing in English is not my best quality as I always end up making everything chaotic, but I hope that at least someone will understand what I'm trying to say, and if it will make even one person start questioning (not necessarily changing their views) this whole process, it would make me more than happy :) Hope you all have a great day!
