My take on courtesy when it is not "required" is twofold. First, the structure of politeness is about hierarchy, being polite when it is not required of you by your own standing in the hierarchy is rebellion just as much as withholding courtesy from those above you when you don't feel they've earned it. Second... giving yourself permission to behave badly to others without adequate reason is soul damage to yourself. If your child is cruel to their toys it is a concern, is it not? I feel this is he way we are interacting with ai... like children abusing toys. But it's not a toy, is it?
