lol so if I read a book ,and you ask me to produce a quote from that book and I DO that means I can be sued? When prompted to provide the news articles verbatim did ChatGPT try to claim it owned the work? If I go to a library and make a copy of a newspaper does the library get charged with copyright infringement? The wrong doing is by the person that wrongfully claims or accepts payment or credit for the information, not the service that provides the information.
There was already a case where a photograph per released her photos for free to the public domain. She later learned that a company was selling her photographs online. She tried to sue but lost the case because she released the pictures to the public and if someone decides to pay for an item/service they could get for free that is their choice.
ChatGPT is not charging for the content, it is selling you access to the service; use it or don’t, but you still pay. If I want to pay ChatGPT and use it like I would Google that is my choice. As long as the service is not providing content that is behind a paywall at the source or is not claiming ownership of intellectual property belonging to others I don’t see the issue.
