I am a person who supports efficiency to make life easier. But that's generally limited to stuff like making neccessities in life easier for everyone. Yet at the same time I do enjoy participating in the manual process of many things. Take cooking for example. I love to cook something for myself, and it will always be tastier than the store-bought stuff since it is specifically made to my own personal tastes. But I also have days where I am low energy and just need to eat something so it's nice to have the option to get something store-bought. Machine-made will always be a safe option because it's made to the generalized taste of a majority. But it will never be exactly up to the personal preference of an individual, at least not perfectly. But the thing is... Food is a neccessity. Art is a luxury, and people, especially cheapskates seem to forget that, or use it as an excuse to justify putting a lower value on such things. There is no excuse for being lazy about art. Because it doesn't put your own life on the line like cooking does. If you don't make food you starve. If you don't make art, there simply won't be art, there are no consequences, there is no reason to automate making art when thinking about it that way. As someone who makes a comic series I'm in a position where most are in disbelief. That I would put myself "WILLINGLY" in a position where I "will be stuck making this one thing for 10 years" and all they see is the massive chore it will be to dedicate to that. Yet all I see is 10 years of joy creating this project, I am looking forward to being able to spend my time this way. Do I sometimes wish I could work faster and get it done with a snap of my fingers? Yes, but that would also suck the fun out of things and it would, on top of that, also not look the way I envisioned it. Plus the time it takes developing gives me time to properly work out the finer details so it becomes even better.
