After I first became aware of AI, I did some reading about it. I feel it is the worst mistake humans have made. When I try to talk to people about it, especially younger people, they tell me that it will free up our time for being more creative and doing things we enjoy. I'm 74 and I know that people are at their happiest when they have a good work/life balance. Too much work drains us. Too much free time does not produce more creativity or joy. It creates frustration. Working people would lose their identity, self-worth and a significant part of their socialization. Mostly, they would lose their income and that also means the loss of health care benefits and retirement funding. AI may replace all of our jobs, but how will we pay for the services AI is providing. IKEA is shipping via driverless trucks. They can replace employees at the stores, but who will be able to buy their goods? Do you enjoy Netflix? You will have plenty of time to watch it, but no income to pay for it. Maybe you would like to lose some weight. Good news, you won't be able to afford food. The best job will be shoplifter. You will go to prison where robots will replace the guards. What could go wrong? Listen to Bernie. We need strict controls around this technology.
