She remarried, and this son was her first and only for a long time. Single mothers are not the problem, but she definitely wasn't equipped to be a mother so young and because her son was the only person in her life, she grew attached to him and couldn't bear to be apart from him UNTIL she remarried, and he probably felt that as he was getting older, her still having that dependency on him for emotional support despite having a husband, was suffocating. I do have sympathy for this woman, but I do know from personal experience, a lot of children of single mothers who were the ONLY person there for their mother in a long time, do get idolized and treated as a martyr for a long time because "you stayed with me despite everything". It's excruciating and it does make you isolate because your parent is treating you like an equal, not as a child. Like the other comments said, this boy had depression, and just the way she describes him as "thinking before he says something to make you upset", she knew he was a very sensitive boy she could push all her baggage on, because she was all he had. AI isn't the problem, but kids do turn to AI to talk to because controlling mothers like these don't LET you talk to anyone else. They expect rebellion but they raised you to not rebel, so it creates this cognitive dissonance and self-loathing. This boy was like a "husband" to his mother, and it's unfortunate she didn't realize she made him into that until it was too late. The way she talks, she definitely has regret over how she drove her son away by imposing herself onto him. The AI being another fictional grown woman and not say, a teenager his age, is also an indicator of how this boy was socialized to only really know how to talk to adults.
