ChatGPT has given me some grossly wrong information on things I know about professionally, and has also surprised me by writing a few items really well. On a subject in which I am an unordained layperson, I find that it telling me that Moses Robinson was in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1797 to 1804. That is nonsense. Robinson in fact was in the U.S. Senate from 1791 to 1796, resigning after five years of a six-year term, and was never in the House of Representatives. And it's done that with a whole bunch of other matters on a considerable variety of subjects. It does much better when it doesn't need hard facts. I told it to expel a diplomat as persona non grata and it produced a short document that seemed plausible (although it said the diplomat was to depart "immediately", whereas I had had the impression that these things usually say "within 48 hours", or 36 or 72 or whatever), although I lack experience with such things. I told it to write a politician's campaign speech in favor of good roads and good whether, and what it wrote seemed ok if those were actually the issues of the day. And sometimes it's done well with hard facts when those were not particularly obscure.
