I'm over halfway through and cannot finish because it's sending me deeper into a white-hot rage. So, maybe this point will be made. In case it isn't... One of the issues with AI that I rarely see mentioned is one of attribution. You can ask these models to create something in the style of a given artist, but they erase attribution from the artistic process. For hundreds of years we've been able to appreciate the works of master artists, be inspired, and study their collection of works. In the present day, we can follow people on socials, study their work, and/or reach out to collaborate. AI erases the connective tissue between art and the humans who actually make it. When image generators create images from prompts, they don't tell you who they stole from. They don't connect you with another artist whose work you admire. You cannot develop a relationship with them and work together to make something new. The only thing you can ever do with image generators is make increasingly derivative dogshit being fed back into itself. I'm glad the issue of looking for references was briefly touched on, but this another huge issue that drives me fucking mad. In just a few years, it has become nearly impossible to find good references because image search results are already mostly AI-generated slop — and it's only been a few years... Fuck Shad and everyone else like him.
