The irony here is that AI could actually be a good thing and free many people from boring, unfulfilling jobs - giving people more time to spend with their families, pursuing hobbies, etc We could have a healthier, happier population. Basically what we need is a completely new form of social organization where people work far less and divide the work between them. So instead of one person working a job 40 hours a week, two persons spilt the work between them and work 20 hours a week each. This would reduce unemployment considerably. Naturally, wage levels would still have to be at the level they are now so that people can afford to live. And, yes, that means that we should get paid the same as we do now, even though we only work half the time. Or, there has the be some income supplement through UBI. The only thing preventing this is the immense greed of the people at the top of the pyramid.
