AI taking over software engineering is the endgame. If it reaches the point where it can successfully do that, it would be able to do the vast majority of other jobs, too. We will figure out a way to protect people long before software engineering as a career path is threatened. If we don't the world would collapse which defeats the entire point of making products since nobody could buy them anyway.
