Youth unemployment is a bellwether, but overall unemployment has been around 4% for four years. It's been under 6% for a decade, aside from the 2020/2021 suspension of the 1st Amendment. There's a lot of doom and gloom, but most people are earning decent money. The spending side of things is a bit out of control. Many people seem to think owning two $40k vehicles and a 2000-SF house is the baseline now.
Also, bachelor's degree hasn't been a path to reliable employment in quite a while. A BS is still usually useful, but plenty of people got BAs over the past 45 years and didn't have any kind of career plan.
We'll always need welders, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians! That's not going to be automated anytime soon.
