Even if regulated, even if not infringing upon creators rights AI generated images aren't going away, in fact they will become more and more common, subtracting more and more work to real artist. This is a part of progress and technological evolution, it has been like this since the industrial revolution in the 1900 and people just need to find a way to cope with this shift, the same way as all those before us who lost their jobs because of the advent of industrial machines. AI generated images are out there, the genie is out of the bottle, there is no going back, there is only adjust to go forward.
Your concerns are more than valid, but in the long run, they will not stop many artists to get out of market and pivot to other ways to generate profit for themselves.
I am afraid this is unavoidable, just cope with it and find a way to coexist before machines are putting you out of business.
