I’m an example of the type of disabled people that AI bros use as a prop in their arguments. I can’t draw, not because I think I lack talent, but rather because I cannot hold a pen or pencil for more than a couple minutes without getting extreme joint pain in my hands and fingers. It’s the result of a chronic illness, and sure, it’s not great but. I found a different artistic outlet that doesn’t rely on the plagiarism machine. I picked up crochet back during the COVID lockdowns, and I haven’t stopped since. It’s incredibly time consuming, and I’ve discovered that I like to take on intricate and challenging projects. But it doesn’t put the same amount of strain on my hands that drawing would. Hell, I’m entirely self taught, and now I’m working on this super intricate lace doily that will have a diameter of about four feet once it’s done. But there is something truly magical about putting so much time into making something beautiful. Even if it’s not drawing, I’m certain that everyone has SOMETHING that they can learn as a creative outlet. It just requires time, patience, and enjoyment for the craft.
