Tech literacy has gone down ever since AI hit the mainstream. In the early days we all knew that LLM's are *not search engines* and are not fact-producing machines, yet people use them as such. Nowadays seems like the vast majority of people forget that these models output stuff that happen to make sense to us, but they have no "compromise" with truth. That's the nature of LLM's (currently, at last). The problem is that education has failed us and people use tools that they don't understand and don't even care about learning how they are supposed to be used.
