As someone who started 3D a few years ago I have to say people miss understand what people mean with it has no soul. I agree that there is none though. I have learned over the years that skills aren't everything. You may know how to create and pose a model but this will not make a great piece on its own. It might look passable but its in 99.9% missing character and life due to not understanding what makes a great peace great in the first place. Flashy colours hyper realistic details are nothing if you are missing the millions of other things and though processes someone put into one piece. It's often details the majority doesn't even actively notice. I'm mainly focusing on animations and I still have a lot to learn but what I learned is that those seemingly small and unimportant changes help breathing life into an animation. I have animated on things for days which people would barely notice in a side by side comparison with and without those changes. The sum of all the little things is what gives a piece its "soul". But there is no general answer to what little things are actually important to give an artwork its "soul". It depends on your technique, the artwork itself, your skill level, art style, vision and a lot more. Nobody can teach you this. It's something you need to develop yourself. AI just can't do that for you. This is why a lot of people claim AI art has no soul. I remember playing a game and an unimportant ladder animation jumping from a ships ladder into a rowboat just hitting a spot for me. It just had so much character it was wild. You could feel how much effort, thought and passion was put into that small sequence. Look at abstract art. I'm not a fan of multi million dollar splashes but if you listen to people why they think its a good painting its not because of the painting. Its because what they think the expression and feelings of this painting is. Not what it actually is looking like. And that's before even talking about morality of training data and AI imperfections itself.
