all the stuff that's being hyped up as AI these days is not actual artificial intelligence. It's just machine learning and an extended version of the algorithms we've had for over a decade at this point. All it does is assign mathematic values (multi-dimensional vectors) to the likelihood of certain pixel colors or words being clustered together a certain way (just like previous machine learning algorithms assigned likelihoods to certain interests being clustered together in people). By definition, it does not create anything new. It simply predicts what is most likely to exist in a certain place based on what typically is in that place. So as opposed to what the proponents say, it's fundamentally different from the creative process of an actual artist because the actual human artist not only recombines things that have previously existed, but does so in a way that is conscious of the larger societal notions at play and often extends into criticism of these notions. So-called AI has no such conscience, it has no opinion or feelings, and thus it cannot do what is at the core of art: expressing an opinion or feelings. This expression is what differentiates between art and not-art, making "AI art" distinctly not-art.
