It’s clear everyone is using AI maybe you, but not me. I only use AI to learn new things, explain concepts I don’t understand, get code snippets to better understand, or help me debug issues, explain why certain parts ain't working, and other ways I need it to which speeds up learning, even use it to help plan a project by breaking it into chunks, brainstorming, project planning (without the code) etc but never to write code, and all that makes me an even better SWE, I love that part, I love figuring things out, so why would I outsource that. I don’t do prompt engineering, nor do I waste time crafting perfect prompts in English when I already have the skills to do it myself. Writing or craft perfect prompts is pretty much boring, I didn't get into SWE to write English especially long winded prompt that take up several paragraphs clearly explain what I need my AI to do, I got into it to build things not outsource the building otherwise what is the point but to figure it out, to craft it myself which I enjoy. If I have a problem, I don't think, “Oh, wait, I can't solve this myself. I am not going to even try to figure it out, so let me not try, let me turn to AI so it can solve for me, so I can copy the result thus dumbing me down”? What happens if I have no internet connection? What if AI is down, I won’t be able to solve anything because my overreliance on AI has taken away my ability to think critically. As a software engineer, you should already have the skills use AI only to explain things, get examples, debug, learn new concepts and techniques, whatever you need to grow, use it as a 24/7 tutor, not to write your code for you. That’s what a script kiddie does. It is one thing to use on a repetive task, is another to use that as an excuse, so you don't even try. I don’t understand why people are so happy to admit they didn’t do the work themselves. You’re forking out money on tokens when you could literally write the code yourself, if you wrote the code yourself, you don’t have to worry about tokens or monthly costs and can stick to the free version, and wouldn't care about paying or AI increasing their monthly costs. I am talking about SWE not people who come from a different discipline, or people who just want end result e.g business owners, we are SWE, our job is literally figuring and building things, we are not script kiddies, that's okay for people who can't code but for us...
