Autopilot needs to stay off the roads and only be in aviation:
1. Air traffic is much more regulated and much less physically crowded, and all pilots are expected to be on radio frequencies (legally required if in certain airspaces or on flight plans)
2. There are no trees, fences, traffic lights, or pedestrians in the air; terrain concerns like mountains and towers still exist, but aren't as immediately lethal as what you see on the road
3. Straight-and-level flight, standard-rate turns, and constant-rate climbs/descents are already part of IFR (instrument flight rules) that are consistent to implement with automation
4. Cruising is much straighter than driving a highway, so autopilot simply makes sense; when hand flying is the better choice, a wise pilot would hand fly
5. Autopilot actually improves safety by allowing pilots to multitask, like handling departures and approaches or talking to ATC/other planes
6. Pilots have more time to handle deviations caused by themselves or automation; drivers on the other hand have mere seconds, perhaps less than a second, to prevent disaster
