Aw well lookit this little channel YT recommended me! As an artist allow me to say that you nailed it. The biggest problem with the arguments supporting AI is a lack of understanding of art. I would also like to contribute my perspective as a digital artist to help your point; one really common 'argument' I keep hearing is like 'well people have always thought technology was going to ruin art! Digital art got the same flak when people first started making it!'. This is frankly asinine because it requires an extremely similar skillset to make digital art as it does traditional art. People who say this literally don't understand the process of creating art.
There are some differences in technicalities; for digital art you need to understand the program you're using. For traditional you need to understand the medium. But your dexterity, perception, understanding of color and light and perspective and anatomy and composition, all must be present in roughly equal amounts whether your art is digital or traditional. You're making the same painting motions and the same decisions on how to compose your image either way. AI makes the decisions for you, that is the difference. If you aren't the one making the decisions you are not the artist. And no, 'prompting' doesn't count, that's like ordering a sandwich vs making it yourself, we aren't talking about deciding the subject matter, we're talking about deciding the *technical execution* of creating that image. An artist does this with an intent and an understanding based on how they see the world. AI does this by copying artists and not understanding why they made those choices. I know it might be harder to understand what goes in to creating art if you don't do it yourself, i.e. Dunning Kruger, but I wish people would at least try.
I can generally spot AI images pretty well, contrary to what AI art bros think. Perhaps most normal consumers can't, but artists can if we learn the signs and scrutinize it a bit. I have so far had about a 95% accuracy in determining AI images from human art, and it's never going to get good enough for those signs to not be there, I promise. People tout this as 'accessibility' for art; art has always been accessible. Pick up a fucking pencil and start drawing if you want to be an artist. Whatever you make will inherently have more value than AI image slop.
