AI is marketed as “The Future” but this is just a smokescreen. The fact is, AI is fundamentally conservative. AI is trained on current data. AI breaks when the data it’s trained on is no longer applicable. AI fundamentally rejects change. What this means is that if we allow AI to worm its way into the center of our lives, any degree of real change will become impossible. Changes will be advertised, but none of them will be an actual change, just the same as what we have, but more. That’s why I reject AI. Beyond the environmental concerns, the black box design, the lack of accountability, the theft and plagiarism, the capitulation of more power to corporations, the complete lack of privacy that will come with its mass adoption, etc., etc… Beyond all of this, AI rejects change, and we live in a world that is in desperate need of real change. We’ve been stuck in a world of stagnant water, and I’d much prefer to dig a channel to create a constant flow over whatever ripples we’d get from dropping more algae into the water with us.
