This is my original idea, which to me is obvious but I have not seen it discussed on any public forum to date.. Soon humanoid robots will start replacing human workers on many menial and repetitive jobs, such as parts assembly and warehouse work. This will be followed, soon, by automated taxis and trucking, AI office workers, and the list goes on. All of these lost jobs will remove humans from the labor force, but more significantly, will immediately start the decline of the income tax base and more importantly, the Social Security tax base. Replacing a tax paying person with a fixed cost, depreciable, robot worker, that is considered a fixed asset rather than a cost of business liability, removes the tax base that is the foundation of our nation's government and our social security safety net. Human workers taxed wages, morph into a corporate tax reduction mechanism, further reducing the public tax base. This downward spiral reduces the government's ability to run the country and gives more financial power to corporate interests. At this point, due to the increasing investment in AI and robotics, it would be impossible to put the genie back into the technological bottle. Change at this point is inevitable. To offset the fiscal damage to our country caused by job and tax loss, at the very least, businesses that replace a human workers job, must pay an equivalent Social Security tax that is based on the market value of the replaced job. Additionally, there should be no tax breaks associated with the purchase or maintenance of, AI and robotic workers, other than a tax reduction equivalent to human worker, paid benefits, such as health care, pensions, and such, charged also on an equivalent basis. This will reduce the monetary benefits associated with replacing human workers solely for financial gain vrs. productivity or worker shortage reasons. At the very least, these reduced financial incentives might slow down the adoption of AI and robotics and give our society the needed time to integrate these highly disruptive technologies into our societies labor and social structures.
