We already do. Never. Because consciousness is not the result of some computational process. If it were we would have already located it inside the human brain. What we see is that AI causes a narrowing in variation from the data it was trained on. When we ask it to draw an elephant it often will show elephants with too many limbs or heads. This is to be expected as it has no understanding of what an elephant is. All it does is look for patterns in the data it was trained on.
