My current art style is influenced by Bruce Timm. I love his proportions/simplicity of style*/dynamic poses. That said, you can still tell it's not his art. It's not mimicry, it's influenced.
As far as using A.I. for reference, I do find it fun generating something lovecraftian and trying to "fix" it through traditional art or at least making it make more sense.
*Simplicity of style came with a lot more skill than I originally figured, I'm starting to get there though 😭
