for the longest time we looked at our early AI and thought "something's missing. We need some kind of spark, some core or soul" ... but in reality, the complexity of the simple brains we had made was just too low. The technique used to create modern AI didn't change, it was just scaled up. Ai aren't missing any extra puzzle piece. Because it never existed in the first place. There is no special spark, or core, or soul, that resides in our own minds that allows us to be conscious. Consciousness was simply an evolutionarily advantageous development that aided survival. Rather than trying to elevate AI to our level, realize instead that 'our level' is much lower than you think. We are machines. The only difference, aside from the material our PCB's are made from, is the complexity. We will one day realize that we created life a long time ago.
