We actually have precedent for 'Just give up artists, its over, go get a real job'- photography. As photography became commonplace, there were a lot of people that said painting was dead- why paint a portrait or a landscape when a photograph can perfectly capture a moment in time?
As anyone with a passing knowledge of art history knows, painters responded by *going insane*. They found ways to use their medium to depict things no photograph ever could- the birth of post-impressionism and expressionism, AKA the period of modern art where basically everyone agrees 'yeah, there's something to that Van Gogh guy.'
I'm not worried about AI art (aside from the environmental issues)- just like photography, it's a tool. Granted, I think generative AI is much more limited in its utility than photoshop's edge finder, but a tool will find a use. I think artists will be liberated to focus not on how their work is rendered ('you'll never match a photograph's accuracy') but how they communicate something human, just like photography did.
